Introduction
 
DNI Green Energy Platform is a communication platform designed for Smart Grid related applications. GEP comprises three major components:

- Head End (HE) / Communication Server
- Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) / Data Collector (DC)
- Communication Module (CM)

to provide an infrastructure network between server and devices / sensors. Compare to Internet of Things (IoT) system architecture, these three components can be mapped to application gateway, sensor gateway and sensor network subsystem, respectively.

DNI Smart Metering / AMI Solutions

 
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
 
AMI is an important infrastructure in smart grid applications. A feasible AMI networking platform consists of many data concentrator units (DCU) and smart meters with communication capability. They are connected by different two-way communication technologies such that the meter reading can be performed. The implementation of AMI provides a connected network to reach customer's smart meter from Meter Data Management System (MDMS) and user interface. Besides, the AMI networking platform in the field can also be adopted to collect the status in power grid to provide the immediately response to event and alarm.
 

DNI AMI solutions
 
DNI provides DCU and CMs for both residential and C&I customers AMI solutions.
For residential customers, AMI DCU supports below communication technologies for metering:
WAN port (uplink to HE/MDMS): 3G/GPRS, Ethernet, MV BPL
LAN port (downlink to meter): High power ZigBee, G3-PLC and LV BPL

For C&I customers, a communication router used to support the directly link between meters and HE:
WAN port (uplink to HE/MDMS): 3G/GPRS, Ethernet
LAN port (downlink to meter): RS232/RS485
 
DCU Functionality
 
The proposed typical AMI functionality includes:
- Transparent Protocol between DCU and meter for various communication technologies.
- Transparent Connection Service on top of Transparent Protocol to handle LAN communication.
- Metering Operation Service with DB to perform meter data reading and storage.
- WAN Communication Protocols to handle the communication between DCU and HE.
- Event Detection to deal with the event and alarm from DCU as well as meters.
- SNMP agent to fetch network information from communication modules on meter side.
- Time Synchronization module to update time automatically.
- Site Survey / Transparent Protocol / DCU Configuration Tools support.

DNI Street Lighting Control Solution

 
Street Lighting
 
The Street Lighting Control Solution integrates communication platform into dimmable LED lighting equipments to form a controllable lighting system. The ZigBee or power line communication (PLC) modules will be adopted to attached in a lighting equipment, which can automatically form a mesh network to communication with Data Collector (DC) and to Control Center. A DC is a gateway device which equips both WAN and FAN communication capabilities to support bi-directional communication between lighting equipments and Control Center.

DNI DC supports below communication technologies for street lighting control:
